$85,000 Scholarship
The Robert L. Ragel Scholarship provides a $85,000 college or university scholarship to one outstanding Tigard High School graduating senior every year. This award was established by one of Tigard’s very own, Robert “Bob” L. Ragel. Bob chose to invest these funds into the future of Oregon’s young, bright-minded students for years to come in hopes that they, too, could reach their goals and give back to their community.
Applicant Qualifications:
Must be a THS graduate planning to attend an Oregon public post-secondary institution
Accumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
Class Rank: Top 25% of graduating class
About the Scholarship: The scholarship amount of $85,000 is distributed evenly over four years of post-secondary education at any Oregon public institution when the recipient maintains an accumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and remains enrolled as a full-time student. Acceptance of one or more substantial scholarship(s) or grant(s) exceeding in total 50% of the Robert L. Ragel Scholarship will disqualify you as a recipient. Automatic merit scholarships are combinable with the Robert L. Ragel Scholarship provided they do not exceed 50% of the total value. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

Community Action: Think about a time you performed an act of community service. What did you do? What was the impact?
Leadership: How has your leadership experience shaped your view of the world?
Intellectual Competence: How have you overcome or persisted after a failure? What did you learn?
Personal Responsibility: Think about a time you had to put someone else before your own needs. Use examples to describe how this impacted you.
High school personal history answers. Choose one prompt. The 2024 prompts are:
School Activities Prompt: What sport, club, or school activity influenced you the most in the last 4 years? (200 words max)
Community Activities Prompt: How have you impacted your community in the last 4 years? (200 words max)
Email addresses of the three people for your letters of recommendation. Recommendations must be from a teacher, counselor, coach, employer, or community member.
